Hiring incentives aim at helping police fill needed positions

ATLANTA — The City of Atlanta, in partnership with the Atlanta Police Foundation, recently announced a cash incentive program aimed at hiring new employees for its police force.

Three special incentives have been created to fill important positions on the force.

A referral bonus program allows City of Atlanta employees to earn up to $500 for recruiting new civilian and sworn employees who successfully complete the applicable training programs. The positions needing to be filled are Crime Scene Technicians, 911 dispatchers and Police Officers.

The second program is the recruit hiring bonus, which will offer a one-time payment of $500 to approved officer recruits who apply and successfully complete the hiring process in the final quarter of 2017 (October-December).

The third incentive is the relocation bonus. Officer candidates may be eligible for a relocation bonus of up to $1,000 when moving into the City of Atlanta. Qualified candidates will receive the relocation bonus in two equal payments: the first payment will be made upon being hired; the second is paid upon graduating from the training academy.

The referral bonus is also paid in two equal payments. Police Officer referral payments are made first upon the candidate being hired, then paid once the candidate graduates from the Police Training Academy. For the 911 Dispatchers and Crime Scene Technician Referrals, payments are made first during the hiring of the candidate. The second payment is made once that candidate has reached their one-year anniversary.

These incentive programs are not afforded to employees working in the Background and Recruitment Unit, the Department of Human Resources or the Training Academy. Referral applications must be submitted prior to the referred applicant being hired.

For more details on application submission, contact the Background and Recruitment Unit’s Lieutenant D’Andrea Price at (404) 546-2584.
