Atlanta Police prepared to manage security at annual Peach Drop celebration in new location

ATLANTA —  The Atlanta Police Department, working in collaboration with other law enforcement and first responder agencies, is prepared to manage security for the annual Peach Drop celebration at its new location at the Flatiron Building near Woodruff Park.

The Department will staff a Joint Operations Center during the day and throughout the Peach Drop using National Incident Management System practices to ensure coordinated monitoring and response among police, fire and emergency services responders. Additionally, officers will be visible throughout the venue and the surrounding area, while undercover officers in plain clothes will also be working the event.

“We want people to enjoy celebrating a New Year in a new and exciting location,” said Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Scott Kreher. “Know that the Atlanta Police Department and its many partners are working diligently to ensure a safe and secure event. The City of Atlanta is blessed to enjoy the cooperation and collaboration of our many first responder partners, helping to ensure these major events run smoothly.”

The activities will be centered in Woodruff Park, which will be fenced off with access points at Auburn Avenue and Park Place, Edgewood Avenue and Park Place, Peachtree Street and Edgewood Avenue and Peachtree Street and Walton Street. The access points are set to open at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.

There will be bag searches conducted at the access points and a clear bag policy will be in place. Food and alcohol will be sold inside the park venue, but no outside food or alcohol can be brought in to it. Other prohibited items include: Chairs, coolers, umbrellas, drones, pets, bicycles, hoverboards and skateboards.

Please be mindful of the potential for traffic congestion around the venue and planned street closings at Peachtree Street and Ellis Street on the north and Peachtree Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. on the south. Event-goers are encouraged to ride MARTA to the event, or use rideshare services to reduce vehicular traffic.

For those who choose to drive, be sure to park in metered spaces or legitimate pay parking lots. Parking violators will be subject to being towed. Also, be sure to remove any valuables from your car to avoid becoming the victim of an auto-break in. Even loose change can attract thieves.

We ask all event-goers to be mindful of their surroundings and to please report suspicious activity to a nearby officer, or call 9-1-1.
