Labor Day Weekend Events To Draw Large Crowds

ATLANTA –  The Atlanta Police Department is urging both city residents and visitors to be mindful of several major events taking place over the Labor Day weekend beginning on Thursday in both the Downtown and Midtown areas that are expected to draw large crowds.

Beginning Thursday with the Atlanta Falcons game at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Downtown, the city will play host to several major events expected to draw nearly one-half million people through Monday, including DragonCon, Black Gay Pride and other sporting events. Other smaller events are also taking place throughout the city at various locations. In addition to Downtown and Midtown, large crowds can be expected at Piedmont Park, Lenox Square, and other city landmarks and destinations.

Atlanta Police Officers will be highly visible in the city to help protect the public, ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible and be prepared to respond to any public safety needs.

“These annual events bring us together and are an important part of what makes the City of Atlanta a unique cultural destination,” said Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields. “We hope everyone enjoys the best of what Atlanta has to offer and takes comfort in knowing APD is on the job.”

The Department urges event-goers to plan for any travel, and consider taking MARTA or carpooling.  Event-goers should be mindful of their surroundings and call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activity. Please help prevent theft from vehicles by removing all valuables in plain sight. Officers routinely respond to reports of laptops, smartphones, cash, tablet computers, purses, firearms and other valuables stolen from

unattended vehicles. Leave these items at home or take them with you to avoid becoming a victim of this preventable crime.
