About Office of Professional Standards

The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) reports directly to the Chief of Police and is responsible for the internal security of the Atlanta Police Department.  Ensuring the integrity of the Department is the goal of OPS.  OPS consists of:
  1.  Internal Affairs Unit
  2. Advocacy Unit
  3. Corruption Unit

Commander Major Moses Perdue

Major Perdue has served with the Atlanta Police Department for more than 23 years. During that time he has played an instrumental role in the development and recruitment of new officers; both as the Director of the Training Academy and as the Commander of the Background and Recruitment Unit. 
 
Major Perdue joined the Atlanta Police Department in 1986. As a newly sworn Officer he was assigned to Zone 2, where he worked until his transfer to the Department's Red Dog Unit. In 1993 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Atlanta Housing Authority Unit (AHAU).  He then served as a Sergeant in the Red Dog Unit; before being assigned to SWAT as the tactical Sergeant. In 2000, Major Perdue attained the rank of Lieutenant and became the Commander of the Auto Theft Unit and Auto Theft Task Force. His subsequent assignments as a Lieutenant were as the Director of the Training Academy and as the Commander of the Department's Background and Recruitment Unit. Promoted to Major in 2007, he served as the Zone 4 Commander prior to taking over the Office of Professional Standards.
 
Major Perdue has used his extensive police background and experiences to help facilitate the Department's growth and to encourage high levels of community involvement.  He holds a Masters of Public Administration Degree from Columbus State University and is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Session 238 (FBINA).  Major Perdue serves as a strong partner in multiple community service projects throughout the various Atlanta neighborhoods.
