June 16, 2024 - The investigation into the 2021 murder of Katherine Janness and her dog, Bowie, remains active and ongoing. The Atlanta Police Department remains committed to solving this case of a life taken in an act of senseless violence and bringing justice to those responsible.
As the investigation is near the start of its fourth year, the investigation is focused on DNA evidence.
Homicide Unit investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in solving this case and are asking for tips to be submitted to Crime Stoppers Atlanta.
Persons do not have to give their name or any identifying information to be eligible for the reward of up to $10,000 for the arrest and indictment of the suspect.

Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help to solve the murder of 40-year-old Katherine (Katie) Janness on July 28, 2021.
On July 28, 2021 the Katherine Janness’ body was discovered inside Piedmont Park. She was last seen walking her dog in Midtown Atlanta. (Photo on flyer was at 12:09am July 28, 2021) The victim and her dog were killed inside the park. Incident summary:
On Wednesday July 28, 2021, at around 1:10am officers responded to Piedmont Park, 1073 Piedmont Ave, on a report of a person stabbed. On scene officers found a deceased adult female with multiple stab wounds. Atlanta Police Homicide Unit detectives responded and are investigating the incident.
Statement regarding cameras in the area of Piedmont Park:
Upon review, the cameras inside Piedmont Park are operated by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Footage from APD cameras in the area is currently under review for any footage that may help this investigation. The Atlanta Police Department continues to work with the DPR on this investigation.
Investigators are actively working to identify anyone involved in this crime and are asking anyone with information to please contact the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
Investigators are also asking those who live in this area to review footage from their security cameras and contact police if they find anything that may be pertinent to this investigation. The timeframe for review should be between 10:30 PM on Tuesday July 27, to 1:30 AM on Wednesday July 28. Callers can remain completely anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
