Atlanta Police Department Awarded $332,970 H.E.A.T. Grant by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Police Department has been awarded a H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) grant for $332,970 by the state’s Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). This grant is designed to help reduce fatal and serious injury car crashes within the City of Atlanta due to impaired driving, speeding, seatbelt violations, and distracted driving.

The grant will allow the Atlanta Police Department to create a specialized task force of three officers trained to improve highway safety. Additionally, the grant will fund the purchase of three H.E.A.T. vehicles and specialized equipment specific to the unit’s mission.

The H.E.A.T. unit will participate in state and local activities including traffic safety campaigns such as Click-It or Ticket, Operation Zero Tolerance, 100 Days of Summer Heat, Rolling Thunder Mobilizations and other National Highway Safety campaigns.

The grant period for this award runs through September 30, 2020.
