Preliminary Information: On Monday 4/4/22, around 8:45 am, officers responded to a kidnapping call at the location of 888 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. Upon arrival, officers met with the 911 caller, Jerrica Moore. Moore stated that she pulled into the parking lot of the Goodwill store located at the above address and exited her vehicle while it was running. Her 9 year-old son was still sitting in the backseat when a male suspect jumped into her running vehicle and sped away from the location with her child still in the back seat.
Zone 4 units, along with the assistance of GSP and Fulton County PD and the Fulton County Sheriff's office responded to the scene and saturated the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle and the victim’s child. Moments after responding to the scene, GSP units spotted the vehicle in the area of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. The suspect attempted to flee, but GSP units were able to successfully execute a PIT maneuver to render the vehicle immobile. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and the child was reunited with his mother. Homicide detectives responded to the scene lead the investigation. GSP released the suspect into Atlanta Police Homicide custody. The suspect was identified as: Darius White (DOB 11/83) Pending APD charges against White include: Kidnapping, Cruelty towards children, and theft by taking. White will be transported to Grady detention for further evaluation. The child was transported to Hugh Spalding for medical observation as a precautionary measure. The investigation continues.
