Preliminary Information: On 01/09/26, around 2:38 a.m., officers responded to a multi‑vehicle accident on the I‑75/85 southbound expressway near University Ave. Upon arrival, officers located multiple vehicles involved and one female driver who was pronounced deceased by Fire/EMS. The APD Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that a female operating a Jeep Renegade experienced mechanical issues, causing her vehicle to come to a stop in the middle of the expressway.

The female exited her vehicle and was subsequently struck and killed by a Chevrolet Camaro operated by another female driver. This impact resulted in a multi‑vehicle collision involving six additional vehicles, including a Toyota Highlander, Nissan Sentra, Toyota Camry, white BMW, black Porsche Macan, and black Yukon. The circumstances surrounding how the additional collisions occurred remain under investigation. Several drivers involved sustained non‑life‑threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital. This investigation remains active and ongoing.
