Arrest update: The suspect had been identified as Alonte Ray (7/2002). Mr. Ray has been charged with 8 counts of Aggravated Assault Against Law Enforcement, Criminal Damage to Property in the 1st Degree, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
All arrests are public information. An arrest does not mean that the individual has been or will be convicted of the crime. Individuals on this press release/website/post/video are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
UPDATE #2: APD SWAT team members were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.
UPDATE: The two officers who sustained injuries were treated at Grady Hospital and have been released.

On 2/7/26 at around 7:55 AM, Atlanta Police responded to a shots fired call at 2470 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE. Upon their arrival to the apartment, officers were met with gunfire. One officer was grazed and the other officer sustained lacerations.
Officers were able to return fire. This is currently now a barricaded gunman situation. The scene is still active as the investigation continues. We ask the public to avoid the area near Cheshire Bridge Rd NE and Lenox Rd NE.
Future questions regarding the investigation into the officer involved shooting should be directed to the GBI.
