Arrest update: On July 31, 2026, Kaine Burnette (3/2009) self-surrendered to Fulton County Jail on charges related to the April 4, 2026, homicide at Piedmont Park. Mr. Burnette has been charged with Reckless Conduct, Possession of a Pistol Under the Age of 18, and Discharging a Weapon Near a Street.

Preliminary information: On April 4, 2026, at approximately 9:03 p.m., Atlanta Police Zone 5 officers responded to a report of gunfire inside Piedmont Park. Upon arrival, officers located two female victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Responding medical personnel pronounced one female deceased at the scene. The second victim, a 15-year-old, was alert, conscious, and breathing, and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Earlier in the evening, a permitted festival concluded on the opposite side of the park at approximately 7:45 p.m. At this time, there is no information indicating that the shooting is connected to that event.
Preliminary investigation indicates the incident stemmed from an unpermitted gathering that occurred near the far west end of the park
Investigators with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are working to determine the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.
