Zone 5
Major Christian Hunt is a distinguished law enforcement professional with over two decades of service in the Atlanta Police Department. Born in the enclave of Niagara Falls, New York, Hunt's journey into policing began with a moment of inspiration sparked by a billboard in Buffalo announcing the Atlanta Police Department's hiring drive.
He joined the department in 2003 as a member of Recruit Class 187, graduating from the academy the following year. Hunt began his career as a patrol officer in Zone 6 and later became a Field Training Officer (FTO). He fondly recalls his time serving as the beat officer for communities such as Forrest Cove, Thomasville Heights, and Leila Valley—areas where his dedication and professionalism earned him the respect of both colleagues and community members.
Over the course of his career, Hunt steadily advanced through the ranks. He served as a detective in the Burglary Unit before being promoted to sergeant in Zone 5, working in both Patrol and the Crime Suppression Unit. In 2014, he was promoted to lieutenant and held a variety of key assignments, including Patrol, Logistics, Fleet, Real-Time Crime Center, Motors, HOPE, and Aviation. Notably, he led Team Delta as the Civil Disturbance Unit Commander during the 2020 civil unrest, demonstrating exceptional leadership during a period of heightened tension.
In 2022, Hunt was promoted to captain, where he first served as Night Commander, overseeing citywide operations during overnight hours. He later became the Assistant Commander of Zone 5, managing both administrative and operational responsibilities. Today, Major Hunt leads Zone 5—the city's most dynamic and diverse zone—where he is responsible for all police operations.
Major Hunt is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC #416) and the Atlanta Police Leadership Institute (APLI), reflecting his strong commitment to professional development and continuous learning. He has received specialized training in crisis response, including completing the Active Attack Integrated Response (ALERRT) course twice. His training also includes SWAT Command Decision-Making and Leadership, as well as Sports and Special Events Incident Management.
Further demonstrating his versatility, Major Hunt has completed Operation RAILSAFE training with Amtrak, enhancing his expertise in multi-agency coordination and transportation security. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Herzing University in Atlanta.
With a comprehensive skill set, proven leadership, and a deep commitment to public safety, Major Christian Hunt exemplifies the mission of the Atlanta Police Department: to create a safer Atlanta by reducing crime, ensuring the safety of our residents, and building trust in partnership with our community.
